Areas of Support

Counselling can help with all kinds of things, and you don't need to have the "right" label for what you're going through before getting in touch. Below are some of the areas I commonly work with, as a starting point.

Anxiety and stress

If worry feels constant, hard to switch off, or is affecting your sleep, work, or relationships.

Low mood and depression

Losing interest in things you used to enjoy, feeling flat or numb, or finding it hard to get through the day.

Relationships and self-esteem

A specific relationship, or a more general sense of not feeling good enough.

Bereavement and loss

Support whether a loss is recent or from further back, whatever that grief looks like for you.

Addiction and substance misuse

Understanding what's underneath a relationship with alcohol, drugs, or another behaviour you want to change.

How these areas overlap

It's common for more than one of these to be present at once — grief that brings on low mood, or stress that affects a relationship, for example. You don't need to identify a single "correct" area before reaching out; that's something we can work out together.

What your first step looks like

I offer free 15-minute call before the first full session — a low-pressure chance to talk briefly about what's brought you to counselling, ask any questions you have, and check that we're a good fit to work together. There's no obligation to continue afterwards.

If you're in crisis or at immediate risk, this website is not a crisis service. In an emergency, call 999 or go to A&E.

You can also call Samaritans free, any time, on 116 123, or text "SHOUT" to 85258.
